DOWNTOWN PARKING RAMP STUDY

PLANNING PARKING AS PART OF THE URBAN FABRIC

Project Overview:

Endeavor North Design worked with the City of Bismarck on a preliminary study evaluating potential locations for future parking structures in Downtown Bismarck. The study looked beyond simply maximizing parking capacity, exploring how a new ramp could support surrounding uses, strengthen downtown connections, and contribute positively to the street environment.

Potential sites were studied for access, capacity, adjacent uses, and long-term development opportunities. The study included conceptual visualizations illustrating both a roughly 500-space parking ramp and a larger structure capable of accommodating up to approximately 1,000 vehicles, helping the City better understand the scale and character of each approach.

Key Features:

• A key part of the study was considering how each site could contribute to the larger downtown environment. Opportunities included connections to nearby medical uses and the potential to incorporate or create liner development parcels along prominent street edges. These areas could support future residential or other active uses, screening portions of the parking structure and creating a stronger, more pedestrian-oriented street presence.

 

Project Impact:

The study provides the City with a visual and planning framework for evaluating future downtown parking investment—not simply as infrastructure, but as an opportunity to support redevelopment, connectivity, and a more active downtown.
